Reformer Pilates

Joseph Pilates developed a system of movement called Contrology in the early 20th century, drawing inspiration from yoga, boxing, gymnastics, dance, acrobatics, martial arts and weight training.

Contrology was developed to overcome the fragility of multiple health problems he suffered growing up. Popularity for this holistic exercise method grew and it became known as Pilates. Whilst it continues to be known as Pilates, modern day practice is also influenced by new discoveries in exercise science.

Pilates consists of low impact strength, flexibility and endurance exercises. Whilst it is an excellent stand alone exercise system, the benefits can aid performance in other sporting activities, movement in daily life and tasks, as well as reducing the risk of future injury.

Pilates can be performed with or without equipment and provides a full body exercise program. At Movementology, we use a Pilates Reformer, a piece of equipment that offers the traditional benefits of Pilates but takes it up a notch. We aim for you to achieve your best movement possible. We offer a personal training style of 1-1 or 2-1 hands on coaching with individual programming and adjustments. Whether this be for general fitness, maintenance, injury rehabilitation or just for fun, the reformer allows you to work your entire body with an almost unlimited range of exercises.
